Domestic violence is always going to be a hot mess. It doesn’t matter who it involves. This is why HotMessFolder‘s HOT MESS OF THE WEEK is the spat between WNBA star Brittney Griner and her fiancé Glory Johnson, who also happens to play pro basketball. The pair reportedly got into it at their Arizona home. According to reports, they were both arrested on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct. HMF is just wondering where they calls are for them to be fined? Suspended? Reportedly, they’re still planning to get married and are apologizing for the situation. Sure sounds a lot like the Ray Rice situation. We think the public should be just as outraged about this domestic violence case, as it is when male athletes are accused of beating of their wives or girlfriends. The stark difference in the media’s framing is really ridiculous. An LGBT relationship shouldn’t change how seriously we take the domestic violence. It’s just a disturbing gay or straight. It still sends the wrong message to young people about the kinds of healthy relationships they should be seeking. We can’t give Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson a pass of this because they’re both women. Obviously, their relationship needs help. Their league should take a firm stand against domestic violence involving its players, anything less would be a hot mess!
