If you haven’t been living under a rock, you know Beyonce and Jay Z have a 2-year-old daughter named Blue Ivy. Well, during the past week, little Blue Ivy’s hair has been the subject of much debate. Too much debate! This is why the drama surrounding Blue Ivy’s hair is HotMessFolder‘s ‘Hot Mess of the Week’ for the week that was! It was the picture below that started it all.
Actually, let’s be honest. The internet has been buzzing about Blue Ivy’s hair for some time now. But this time in particular things seem to have catapulted to new heights. There are a lot of people who think Blue Ivy’s hair is a flat out hot mess. They think her hair is bad representation of her parents. Folks feel SOOOOOOO strongly about it a petition to “comb her hair” was started on change.org . Yes! A petition! This is where things go a little too far. What it really highlights, though, is society’s continued obsession with Black women’s hair. It’s infuriating that a baby like Blue Ivy is being ridiculed for her hair so young. If you’re not off limits as a freaking baby, you’re never off limits. The natural hair movement has made such great gains in the past few years and still the Black female’s hair is the target of so much abuse , even within the Black community itself. It needs to stop. A clip of Dr. Oz doing a show on the topic of natural Black hair recently came to our attention here at HotMessFolder. Seriously, it has come to this? Black women apparently need Dr. Oz to educate them about their own damn hair?! When Dr. Oz told the black women on is show that her hair felt like a “paint brush” he really lost us. Come on, people! This has all gotten so out of hand. Dr. Oz’s little segment further propelled so many stereotypes, in our opinion. The way he touched the hair with wonder and intrigue. This is what Black women face in the real world on a daily basis. It shouldn’t be so freaking intriguing anymore. It’s just HAIR! Black women can be the authorities on their damn hair. Black women can be the authorities on their own child’s hair. Enough already! We’ve posted the clips to Dr. Oz’s natural hair episode blow. Ugh!
