On Monday night’s episode of ‘Fashion Police’ Rancic reportedly said she felt actress Zendaya Coleman “smells like patchouli oil or weed.” Guiliana said this because of the dreadlocks hair style Zendaya rocked on the Oscars red carpet. Well, Zendaya gave Guiliana a fierce reading for her comments. Here’s what she said:
Guiliana posted this response on her Twitter:
FIRST OF ALL: that’s not how you apologize. Anytime your apology includes “I’m sorry you were offended” it’s a whack non-apology. Secondly, it absolutely has everything to do with race. Guiliana thought she was being cute by reinforcing stereotypes. It was her lame attempt at comedy. Girl, you are no Eddie Murphy. You should leave the ethnic-based humor to the pros, ma’am. Zendaya looked absolutely gorgeous. She deserved props for having the confidence to rock such a regal hairstyle that isn’t the status quo. Black hair is constantly under attack in popular culture. Guiliana added to that problem with her comments. What’s making it even more of a hot mess is she doesn’t even seem to get it. Guiliana didn’t just offend Zendaya. She offended folks everywhere who appreciate cultural diversity in connection to standards of beauty! Guiliana Rancic, you have officially been filed in the HotMessFolder!
